New York City is launching a $53 million pilot program, run by Mobility Capital Finance, to provide 'Immediate Response Cards', pre-paid credit cards, to migrant families staying in the city's hotels. The cards, loaded with funds for food and baby supplies, can only be used in selected stores. Participating families are required to sign an affidavit, pledging to use the cards only for food and baby supplies or risk being cut off from the scheme. The program is expected to save the city over $7.2 million annually. If successful, the scheme will expand to all migrant families in NYC hotels, estimated at 15,000.
