India Supports H-1B Visa Program Amid Debate

India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, emphasized the mutual benefits of H-1B visas for both India and the U.S., stating that the movement of skilled professionals enhances their economic and technological partnership. The recent support from President-elect Donald Trump and Elon Musk for the H-1B visa program has reignited discussions, with Musk declaring he would go to 'war' to defend it. Trump, who previously criticized the program, has now expressed his belief in its value, citing his own use of H-1B visas for his properties. Indian nationals comprise the majority of H-1B visa recipients, accounting for approximately 78% of the 265,777 visas issued in the last fiscal year. The Indian government is keen to strengthen ties with the U.S., as evidenced by recent high-level visits to the U.S. by Indian officials. This collaboration reflects a broader aim to leverage each country's competitive strengths in the global market.
