Trump Urges Google to Restore Univision on YouTube TV
President Trump urged Google on Truth Social to restore Univision to YouTube TV, warning the blackout is “VERY BAD for Republicans” ahead of the 2026 midterms. The removal followed expiration of TelevisaUnivision’s carriage deal amid a fees-and-terms dispute, with reports that YouTube TV proposed moving Univision into a paid Spanish-language add‑on. YouTube TV said Univision’s “current demands” aren’t supported by its performance on the platform but said it was open to talks. Subscribers saw Univision channels and content removed from YouTube TV libraries, and TelevisaUnivision directed viewers to ViX and other outlets while condemning the blackout as stripping millions of Spanish‑language viewers of news and entertainment. TelevisaUnivision CEO Daniel Alegre thanked Trump for highlighting the issue, accused Google of imposing a “Hispanic tax” and discriminatory treatment, and Republican officials including Sen. Ted Cruz and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton have publicly pressured Google and threatened legal action. The dispute has become a political flashpoint given Univision hosted a widely viewed 2024 Trump town hall and analyses showing Trump captured roughly 48% of Latino voters in 2024, heightening concerns about Hispanic media access ahead of the midterms.
