Texas Sen. Sarah Eckhardt Runs for McCaul's Seat

Texas State Sen. Sarah Eckhardt announced she is running for the open U.S. House District 10 seat being vacated by Rep. Michael McCaul and released a campaign video stressing voter choice and finding common ground. Eckhardt, a former Travis County judge who represents Senate District 14, said her top priorities are improving health care, strengthening education, protecting water supplies, bolstering climate resiliency, and reforming criminal and social justice. She will not have to give up her state Senate seat — her term runs through early 2029. The district was redrawn this year to add more Democratic areas of Austin but still leans Republican and, analysts say, would have strongly favored Donald Trump in 2024. At least 10 Republicans have filed to run, including attorney Chris Gober, who has ties to Elon Musk’s political operation, and Eckhardt said she will court independent-minded and rural voters she believes are tired of tribal politics.
