Florida AG subpoenas California trucking company over fatal Turnpike crash
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has issued civil and criminal subpoenas to White Hawk Carriers, the trucking company that employed Harjinder Singh, who is charged with three counts of vehicular homicide after a fatal crash on the Florida Turnpike. Singh, an illegal immigrant who entered the U.S. via Mexico in 2018, obtained commercial driver's licenses in California and Washington despite alleged deficiencies in English proficiency and driving competency. Uthmeier criticized the licensing process, emphasizing Singh should never have been granted a CDL due to his lack of English skills and proper training, and has also sent legal demands to California and Washington to investigate how Singh obtained these licenses. The Department of Transportation and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration are conducting investigations into the incident and the licensing issues. Singh's brother, who was a passenger in the semi-truck during the crash, was also arrested on three counts of vehicular homicide. Uthmeier pledged to use all legal tools to hold parties accountable and to examine broader concerns about undocumented individuals receiving commercial driving licenses in the U.S.
