Florida Man Sentenced for Threatening Rep. Swalwell

Michael Shapiro, a 73-year-old man from Greenacres, Florida, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for leaving threatening voicemails aimed at U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell and his children. Shapiro left five threatening messages on December 19, 2023, in which he stated, 'I'm gonna come after you and kill you [expletive]' and 'I'm gonna come and kill your children you mother-[expletive].' He was arrested in January and pleaded guilty in May to transmitting threatening communications. In addition to these threats, Shapiro had a history of making similar threatening calls, including hate crime threats against the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Swalwell attributed these threats to the influence of 'MAGA Republicans.'
