Finland, Norway join efforts for Ukraine peace plan
Finnish President Alexander Stubb has announced that Finland and Norway are collaborating with Ukraine, the UK, and France to develop a peace plan aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Stubb emphasized that while progress has been made, no new commitments have been made regarding the deployment of European troops to Ukraine, with support focused on military, political, and economic assistance instead. He also highlighted the importance of utilizing frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine's defense and reconstruction efforts. Additionally, Stubb noted that internal disagreements within NATO regarding Ukraine's membership persist, with both the U.S. and Germany opposing its formal accession, although he suggested a de facto integration could be a solution. The discussions among European leaders aim to strengthen unity against Russian aggression, despite recent tensions between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Ultimately, the emphasis remains on ensuring security guarantees for Ukraine while navigating the complex geopolitical landscape.
