Trump, Netanyahu Unveil Gaza Ceasefire Plan
President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unveiled a U.S.-crafted ceasefire and postwar governance framework for Gaza, described in most reports as a 20-point plan (some outlets cited 21 points) to deradicalize the strip, speed humanitarian aid and reconstruction, and create a political horizon toward coexistence. The proposal conditions an immediate ceasefire on mutual agreement, calls for Hamas to return all hostages within about 48–72 hours, and would see Israeli forces withdraw to a predetermined line while aid and rebuilding begin. It includes large-scale releases of Palestinian detainees by Israel — reported figures include roughly 250 life-term prisoners plus about 1,700 others — and detailed exchange terms. Israel has publicly accepted the proposal and some Palestinian authorities have said they welcome it, but Hamas has not agreed and has demanded a formal copy and its own conditions, including a lasting ceasefire and Israeli withdrawal. Mr. Trump warned that if Hamas rejects or violates the deal, Israel would have U.S. backing to “finish the job,” and the announcement comes amid mounting international pressure on Prime Minister Netanyahu and shifting diplomatic moves over Palestinian recognition.
