Zelensky denies discussions on US ownership of Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant
In recent discussions between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the idea of U.S. control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant emerged as a proposal to protect it from Russian occupation. Zelensky clarified that while Trump inquired about the plant, he firmly rejected any notion of U.S. ownership, stating that if it does not remain under Ukrainian control, it cannot operate legally. He expressed openness to collaboration on investment and modernization of Ukrainian nuclear facilities. Following the call, U.S. officials reiterated that American ownership could safeguard these plants and enhance Ukraine's energy independence. The conversation also included discussions on increasing military support for Ukraine, particularly regarding Patriot missile systems. The U.S. administration is shifting its focus towards achieving a long-term peace agreement amidst ongoing discussions about Ukraine's natural resources.
