Texas Rangers' Jake Burger to Undergo Left Wrist Surgery After Injury-Plagued Season
Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger will undergo surgery to repair a torn tendon sheath in his left wrist, an injury sustained in mid-August that affected his performance in the 2025 season. Burger battled multiple injuries throughout his debut season with the Rangers, including oblique and quadriceps strains, and had three stints on the injured list. Despite a cortisone injection that initially alleviated his wrist pain, Burger experienced the tendon "popping" in and out of place, contributing to a slump in his offensive metrics, including a .236 batting average and diminished power against fastballs. Acquired from Miami in the offseason, Burger was expected to boost the Rangers' offense but struggled significantly compared to his prior seasons, including a notable drop in his exit velocity and slugging percentage. The surgery is likened to one that teammate Josh Jung underwent after the 2024 season, with an optimistic outlook for Burger to be ready for spring training. Burger remains under club control through 2028 and is projected to compete for the starting first base position next year despite the challenges of his inaugural Texas season.
