Western nations, particularly European countries, have been advancing plans to provide security guarantees to Ukraine contingent on a peace deal with Russia, but they await firm commitment and tangible support from the United States. President Emmanuel Macron emphasized Europe's readiness to contribute to Ukraine's defense, contingent on U.S. backing, while President Donald Trump has ruled out deploying American troops on the ground, instead offering potential air and missile cover and intelligence sharing as a backstop. Ukraine is pursuing a significant arms buildup funded by Europe, focusing on developing its domestic defense capabilities, including the production of the long-range 'Flamingo' cruise missile, seen as a critical deterrent against future Russian aggression.
