Russia Launches Major Aerial Attacks on Kyiv, Multiple Ukrainian Regions
Russia launched one of its most intense aerial offensives on Ukraine, targeting Kyiv and other regions such as Járkiv and Ivano Frankivsk with missiles and drones, resulting in multiple casualties and significant damage including fires at a kindergarten and a subway station where civilians were sheltering. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed at least two deaths and 15 injuries, emphasizing the urgent need for enhanced Western military aid, particularly air defense systems, as NATO allies, led by the U.K. and Germany, convened to discuss further support following U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of new weapon deliveries. The attacks coincided with ongoing diplomatic efforts, including Kyiv's proposal for new peace talks and Moscow's cautious openness to negotiations, despite their positions remaining strongly opposed. Meanwhile, France has increased military cooperation with Ukraine, focusing on co-production of weaponry including drones, and the U.K. is continuing its campaign to intensify pressure on Russia. The Kremlin has tightened control over foreign ship docking in Russian ports, transferring authority to the FSB amid the conflict. The persistent drone and missile barrages underscore the evolving challenges faced by Ukraine’s defenses and the complexities of achieving a ceasefire amid escalating hostilities.
