SpaceX Achieves Milestone with First Commercial Spacewalk

Billionaire Jared Isaacman and SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis made history by conducting the first-ever commercial spacewalk as part of SpaceX's Polaris Dawn mission. This milestone mission involved the duo stepping out of the Dragon capsule at an altitude of approximately 700 km using SpaceX's newly designed, less bulky EVA spacesuits. The mission, which aims to advance commercial spaceflight, also marked the farthest humans have traveled from Earth since the Apollo program, reaching up to 870 miles. The spacewalk, lasting about 30 minutes, involved rigorous testing of the new suits and included the entire capsule being depressurized due to the absence of a traditional airlock. The crew shared their experiences and images from space via Starlink satellite internet. This mission signifies a major step toward future Moon and Mars missions, reflecting SpaceX's and NASA's broader goals for space exploration.
