ChargePoint Boosts Security with Cut-Resistant Cables

ChargePoint, a leading electric vehicle charging network, has introduced innovations to combat the rampant theft and vandalism of EV charging cables, primarily driven by the value of copper. To deter such activities, ChargePoint has developed a new cut-resistant cable made from hardened steel and durable polymer materials, designed to significantly increase the time and effort required to cut through it. An integrated alarm system, ChargePoint Protect, triggers alarms and alerts when tampering is detected and will be available across ChargePoint's commercial and fleet charging stations. ChargePoint plans to license this technology to other manufacturers. Despite the added protection, the cables remain flexible and easy to use for drivers. The company's proactive measures aim to enhance the reliability of EV charging infrastructure and support broader EV adoption by addressing cable theft, a growing issue in the industry.
