ZOA Files Complaint Against Massachusetts Teachers Union Alleging Antisemitism

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has filed a 26-page complaint with Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell accusing the Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA), a 117,000-member union, of fostering a hostile and discriminatory environment against Jewish members since the Hamas attacks on Israel in October 2023. The complaint alleges that the MTA has engaged in antisemitic and anti-Israel conduct, including passing resolutions condemning Israel without acknowledging the Hamas attacks, distributing materials perceived as antisemitic, and creating an atmosphere where Jewish educators feel unsafe and unwelcome. Jewish members have reportedly resigned or considered leaving the union due to this alleged hostility. The ZOA urges the Attorney General to investigate and take civil action to enforce the civil rights of Jewish educators within the union. MTA leadership has denied accusations of indoctrination or antisemitism, emphasizing the union's mission to improve educators' working conditions. The complaint is supported by Jewish educators who have unsuccessfully attempted to address these issues internally, highlighting a growing tension between the union's actions and its Jewish members' rights.
