Gates Foundation to End by 2045, Focus on Africa

Bill Gates has announced that most of his $200 billion fortune will be given away through the Gates Foundation over the next 20 years, with a primary focus on improving health, education, and development in Africa. He spoke at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, highlighting the importance of innovation, partnership, and investment in primary healthcare, education, and the use of AI for next-generation systems. Gates noted the commitment comes as international aid, including USAID, faces significant cutbacks, raising concerns about funding gaps. African leaders and advocates, including Mozambique’s former First Lady Graça Machel, welcomed the decision as timely amid ongoing crises. The Gates Foundation, which has already disbursed over $100 billion since 2000, plans to sunset its operations by 2045. Gates aims to give away 99% of his wealth through these efforts.
