Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador, has been arrested and charged with the rape and murder of Rachel Morin, a mother of five in Maryland. Martinez-Hernandez, who entered the U.S. illegally in February 2023, allegedly attacked Morin in August 2023 while she was hiking on the Ma & Pa Heritage Trail. DNA evidence linked him to the crime and to a previous home invasion and assault in Los Angeles. Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler criticized the Biden administration's border policies, attributing such violent incidents to the lack of secure borders. Martinez-Hernandez is also suspected of prior crimes in El Salvador and was apprehended in Tulsa, Oklahoma, awaiting extradition to Maryland.
