Trump Hosts Qatar Emir, Praises Ceasefire Role

President Trump hosted Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Qatar’s prime minister aboard Air Force One during a refueling stop at Al Udeid Air Base en route to the ASEAN summit, with Secretary of State Marco Rubio also expected to join. Trump publicly thanked Qatar for its role shaping the Israel–Hamas ceasefire, a truce brokered by the U.S., Qatar, Egypt and Turkey and signed at Sharm El Sheikh. U.S. officials are now focused on implementing Trump’s 20‑point plan and safeguarding the fragile agreement. The truce has reduced large-scale hostilities but remains fragile amid flare-ups, disputes over exchanges of the dead and mutual distrust between Israel and Hamas. Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry reported 19 Palestinians killed in the past 48 hours and 93 killed since the ceasefire began.
