Man Arrested at Capitol with Weapons

A man armed with a machete and three knives was arrested at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center on Wednesday, shortly before President-elect Donald Trump's scheduled arrival. Identified as 44-year-old Mel J. Horne from Washington, D.C., he faces multiple charges of carrying a dangerous weapon. The incident temporarily halted security screening at the north side of the Visitor Center as visitors were arriving to pay respects to former President Jimmy Carter, lying in state at the Capitol Rotunda. Separately, a suspicious vehicle near the Capitol led to road closures and a bomb squad investigation. US Capitol Police Chief J. Thomas Manger emphasized the importance of constant vigilance to maintain security at the Capitol.
