Boeing Q3 Loss, 777X Delayed; Airbus Strong Quarter
Boeing reported Q3 revenue of about $23.3 billion and delivered 160 jets, leaving a backlog near $636 billion, but posted a GAAP loss of roughly $5.4 billion driven by a $4.9 billion one‑time charge tied to prolonged 777X certification delays that pushed first commercial deliveries to 2027. The company generated positive operating cash flow and modest free cash flow, and the FAA approved raising 737 MAX production to 42 per month as Boeing works to stabilise output. CEO Kelly Ortberg said the 777X timing shift reflects the certification process rather than new technical issues, and Boeing said a potential large order from Chinese carriers could materially aid its recovery. Rival Airbus reported a strong quarter, with revenue up about 14%, core operating profit/EBIT rising roughly 38% to about €1.94 billion (≈$2.26 billion) and net profit near €1.1 billion. Airbus reaffirmed its delivery target of roughly 820 units, but cut the A220 ramp-up to 12/month in 2026 while keeping A320 and A350 production ramp plans (A320 ~75/month in 2027, A350 ~12/month in 2028).
