House Oversight Subpoenas Epstein Estate, Schedules Acosta Interview

The House Oversight Committee is intensifying its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein's 2008 plea deal and the federal government's handling of his case, subpoenaing Epstein's estate for critical documents, including a 'birthday book' linked to Ghislaine Maxwell. Former U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta, who approved the controversial plea deal and later served as President Donald Trump's labor secretary, will voluntarily appear for a transcribed interview on September 19. The committee, chaired by James Comer, is also seeking sworn statements from former Attorneys General Alberto Gonzales, Eric Holder, and Jeff Sessions, who were previously subpoenaed. Alongside these efforts, subpoenas were issued to former FBI Directors and prominent political figures, though some, like Robert Mueller, have had subpoenas withdrawn. The Justice Department has begun delivering documents related to Epstein's investigation, but the committee remains focused on potential federal mismanagement, the circumstances surrounding Epstein's death, and the operation of sex-trafficking rings. President Trump has denied involvement with Epstein's 'birthday book' and is pursuing legal action against claims suggesting otherwise.
