Sudan Army Launches Major Offensive in Khartoum

Sudan's army launched a major offensive in the capital, Khartoum, on Thursday to regain territory from the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), marking its largest operation in months. The offensive included artillery and airstrikes, with significant fighting reported around key bridges over the Nile that connect Khartoum, Omdurman, and Bahri. This push comes as General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan addressed the UN General Assembly, blaming opposition forces for the ongoing devastation. The 17-month conflict has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, displacing over 10 million people and causing widespread hunger and famine. Despite international diplomatic efforts, including US-mediated peace talks, a cease-fire remains elusive.
