All Major Las Vegas Strip Casinos Now Unionized in Historic Labor Victory

In a historic labor victory, all major casinos on the Las Vegas Strip are now unionized under the Culinary Workers Union, marking the first time in its 90-year history that every significant resort has agreed to union representation. This breakthrough came after the Venetian, a long-time holdout, reversed its stance following a change in ownership and signed a contract alongside the newly opened Fontainebleau, covering around 60,000 hospitality workers. The union contracts include a transformative 32% wage increase over five years, access to health care, job protections, legal services, housing support, and safer working conditions. Susana Pacheco, a housekeeper who has worked on the Strip for 16 years, described how the new terms have improved her quality of life, providing better pay, guaranteed days off, and a stronger voice at work. This union success stands out amid a national decline in union membership, with only about 10% of U.S. workers unionized in 2024, and comes at a time of economic challenges for Las Vegas tourism and the casino industry. Patrick Nichols, president and CEO of the Venetian, expressed confidence that the partnership between the casinos and the union will yield positive outcomes for all parties.
