Texas Man Indicted for Smuggling 101 Migrants

Juan Manuel Aguirre, a 49-year-old Texas man, has been indicted for allegedly smuggling 101 undocumented immigrants, including 12 children, in a locked trailer. Law enforcement observed Aguirre loading the migrants into the trailer at a warehouse in Laredo on December 2, leading to a traffic stop where the migrants were discovered in overcrowded and unsafe conditions. Reports indicate that two migrants expressed difficulty breathing and fear for their safety due to the conditions inside the trailer. Aguirre faces three federal charges, each carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000. This incident echoes a previous tragedy in San Antonio where 53 migrants died in a similar situation, igniting calls for improved border security and humane treatment of migrants. Aguirre is expected to be arraigned in the coming days.
