US Blacklists TRF After Kashmir Attack

The United States has designated The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) following its claimed responsibility for the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 civilians. The US Department of State cited the attack as the deadliest against Indian civilians since the 2008 Mumbai attacks and recognized TRF's links to LeT. The designation is expected to disrupt TRF's operations by restricting funding, recruitment, and legitimacy, and to provide Indian agencies with a stronger basis for seeking international cooperation and extradition. Indian officials have welcomed the move, stating it validates India's stance on cross-border terrorism and strengthens counter-terrorism ties with the US. The decision comes amid ongoing Indian counter-terrorism operations, including Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure across the border. The developments have heightened regional security concerns.
