Antenna: Millions Cancel Disney+, Hulu After Kimmel Suspension
New data from subscription tracker Antenna shows roughly 3 million Disney+ and 4.1 million Hulu cancellations in the U.S. in September — about 7 million combined — after ABC briefly suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live following his on-air comments about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Antenna reported monthly churn roughly doubled to about 8% for Disney+ (from about 4%) and 10% for Hulu (from about 5%), even as both services posted net additions of roughly 2.1–2.2 million subscribers in September. The suspension came after pressure from Trump-administration figures including FCC chair Brendan Carr and pre-emptions by affiliates such as Nexstar and Sinclair, prompting public backlash and calls to boycott Disney-owned streaming services; Kimmel’s reinstatement produced a large ratings spike. Disney has pushed back on Antenna’s totals as higher than its internal figures, and reporters note Antenna’s estimates may exclude some wholesale accounts; the company also cited recent price increases and new bundling/ESPN streaming options that may have influenced churn. Because gains and losses partially offset one another and the data sources differ, the net business impact and direct attribution of cancellations to the suspension remain uncertain.
