CoreWeave Plans $6B AI Data Center Investment Lancaster

CoreWeave has announced a major investment of up to $6 billion to build a state-of-the-art AI data center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, aimed at supporting advanced AI applications and enhancing U.S. competitiveness in the AI sector. The facility will initially operate at 100 megawatts with potential expansion to 300 megawatts, positioning Pennsylvania as a strategic hub in the global AI economy. The project is expected to create approximately 600 skilled jobs during construction and scale to 175 permanent technical roles, with each job anticipated to generate additional local employment opportunities. This announcement was made at the Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit at Carnegie Mellon University, attended by President Donald J. Trump, Governor Josh Shapiro, Senator John Fetterman, and other leaders, highlighting the importance of AI investment for economic growth and national innovation. CoreWeave CEO Michael Intrator emphasized the strong demand for AI compute power and the company’s commitment to expanding its AI infrastructure network, which already includes 33 data centers across the U.S. While the project promises significant economic and technological benefits, it also involves large capital investment and potential environmental considerations.
