Canada, Manitoba, British Columbia remove U.S. alcohol in tariff response

In response to President Trump's newly imposed 25% tariffs on Canadian imports, Canadian provinces are taking significant measures against U.S. alcohol products. Starting February 2, the Liquor Control Board of Ontario will remove all American alcohol from its shelves, while British Columbia will specifically ban alcohol from Republican-led states. Premier David Eby of British Columbia described the tariffs as a 'declaration of economic war' against Canada, asserting a united front among provinces. Manitoba's Premier Wab Kinew announced a similar ban, emphasizing support for local businesses and stating that the tariffs represent an attack on Canadians. The combined bans target a substantial market, with Ontario's liquor board alone handling nearly $1 billion in annual U.S. alcohol sales. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also indicated a broader retaliatory strategy against U.S. goods worth $155 billion.
