Two U.S. Navy aviators from the Electronic Attack Squadron 130, known as the 'Zappers', have been declared deceased following the crash of their EA-18G Growler jet during a training flight near Mount Rainier, Washington. The aircraft crashed on October 15, and wreckage was located in a remote and heavily wooded area at an altitude of about 6,000 feet after an extensive multi-agency search. The Navy has shifted from search and rescue to recovery operations, with ongoing efforts to recover debris and determine the crash's cause. The identities of the aviators will be released after notifying their families. The Growler, a $67 million electronic warfare aircraft, had recently returned from a Middle East deployment aboard the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. The cause of the crash is under investigation, and Cmdr. Timothy Warburton emphasized the priority of supporting the families of the fallen aviators and the squadron community.
