Oct 22–23 Russia-Ukraine Strikes Kill Civilians
On Oct. 22–23, overnight Russian missile and drone attacks struck multiple Ukrainian cities including Kyiv, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia, killing at least six civilians, injuring dozens, and damaging homes and energy infrastructure. A Kharkiv kindergarten was destroyed in the strikes; emergency services evacuated about 48 children to shelters and reported some adults hospitalized and children suffering acute stress reactions. Emergency crews said Senior Master Sergeant Yurii Chystikov, a firefighter, was killed and five colleagues wounded in a double‑tap strike in Kharkiv Oblast. Kyiv also carried out cross‑border operations into Russia, with Russian officials reporting a drone hit a residential building in Krasnogorsk that injured five people including a child, and Ukraine’s military intelligence claiming strikes that killed Russian paratroopers and caused explosions at an ammunition plant in Kopeysk. Separately, Ukrainian prosecutors opened a war‑crimes investigation after witnesses said Russian soldiers shot dead five civilians in Zvanivka, Donetsk region.
