Tens of Thousands Displaced in West Bank Amid Israeli Military Operations

Tens of thousands of Palestinians have fled Israeli military operations in the northern West Bank, marking the largest displacement since the 1967 Mideast war. Following a crackdown on militants announced on January 21, Israeli forces intensified their operations in Jenin and nearby towns like Tulkarem and Nur Shams, reminiscent of the 1948 war when 700,000 Palestinians were displaced. Many families are experiencing a resurgence of trauma related to the Nakba, with humanitarian officials noting that over 40,100 Palestinians have already been displaced. Roland Friedrich from the U.N. Palestinian refugee agency described the situation as unprecedented, stressing that the destruction of infrastructure is making refugee camps uninhabitable. Experts highlight that Israel's military tactics in the West Bank are increasingly similar to those used in Gaza. This ongoing crisis raises concerns about the humanitarian implications for the affected populations.
