40-40 Tie, Parsons Trade Fuels Backlash
The Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers played to a rare 40-40 overtime tie at AT&T Stadium in Week 4, producing the NFL’s first 40-40 final and more than 900 yards of combined offense. Dak Prescott (31-of-40, 319 yards, three passing TDs and a rushing score) and Jordan Love (31-of-43, 337 yards, three TDs) each threw three touchdowns in a back-and-forth game that also featured George Pickens, Romeo Doubs, Josh Jacobs and Javonte Williams. Special teams swung momentum — a blocked extra point was returned for two by Markquese Bell, Brandon McManus hit a 53-yard field goal to force overtime and converted a 34-yarder in OT to finish the scoring. Micah Parsons, who had been traded to Green Bay in a deal that sent Kenny Clark and two future first-round picks to Dallas, returned to AT&T Stadium and delivered a strong outing for the Packers including pressures and an overtime sack that helped set up McManus’ final kick. Parsons’ performance and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ public defense of the trade — including comments calling Prescott “indispensable” and implying Parsons “wasn’t” — sparked intense backlash, a high-profile fan split, and criticism of coaching, game management and both defenses.
