Israel,Gaza Exchange Bodies Under US-Brokered Ceasefire Truce

As part of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement facilitated by President Donald Trump, Hamas has returned the remains of three Israeli soldiers killed in the October 7, 2023 attack that triggered the Gaza war, including American-Israeli Captain Omer Neutra, Corporal Oz Daniel, and Colonel Assaf Hamami. In exchange, Israel handed over the bodies of 45 Palestinians to Gaza, bringing the total number of Palestinian bodies returned under the truce to 270. The ceasefire stipulates that Israel returns 15 Palestinian bodies for every Israeli body received, with Hamas having released the remains of 20 hostages so far, and eight hostages still held in Gaza. The exchange marks a significant step in the fragile ceasefire, though challenges remain, including difficulties in forensic identification due to limited resources in Gaza. Neutra's family expressed gratitude to the Trump administration for facilitating the return, while Israeli officials called for Hamas to return all remaining hostages.
