Belarus Builds Multiple Military Bases Possibly Hosting Russian Missiles
Satellite imagery and investigative journalism reveal extensive construction and modernization of military bases across Belarus, including a significant new site south of Minsk potentially hosting Russia's Oreshnik ballistic missile system. This site, spanning over 2 square kilometers, is being developed on the grounds of the former Soviet Military Camp No. 25 Pavlovka, once home to nuclear-capable missile regiments before Belarus renounced nuclear weapons in 1993. The facility features ammunition depots, large hangars, fortified structures, and a network of paved roads, suggesting strategic importance in the upcoming joint Russia-Belarus Zapad-2025 military exercises. Belarus has also upgraded multiple airfields, such as Luninets, which hosted Russian aircraft during the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, enhancing missile infrastructure and air-defense capabilities. Belarus, a close ally of Russia and bordering NATO members, remains secretive about these developments, raising regional security concerns given the potential deployment of nuclear-capable missile systems controlled by Moscow. These military enhancements underscore Belarus's growing role as a staging ground for Russian military operations amid heightened tensions with NATO and the West.
