Josue Rodriguez, a 26-year-old man, has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run death of 21-year-old Areauna Laws, a Marine reservist, who was struck while attempting to fix a flat tire on June 23, 2024. Rodriguez was identified as the driver of a tan 1975 Chevrolet Cheyenne that allegedly hit Laws on Interstate 20 and fled the scene. Following an investigation, which included surveillance footage and cell phone records placing Rodriguez near the crash site, he was located by U.S. Marshals and arrested in Fort Worth on September 17, 2024. He faces a charge of Accident Involving Death and is being held on a $40,000 bond. Laws was on her way to military drills at the time of the accident and was engaged to be married next June.
