GSA Adds xAI Grok to OneGov Through March 2027
The U.S. General Services Administration struck an 18-month agreement with Elon Musk’s xAI to make Grok 4 and Grok 4 Fast available to federal agencies for $0.42 per organization, with access running through March 2027 and xAI engineers committed to assist deployment. The deal is part of the GSA’s OneGov strategy alongside contracts with OpenAI, Meta, Google and Anthropic and is the longest and lowest-priced offering in the current wave of federal AI procurement. Critics — including House and Senate Democrats and numerous advocacy groups — warn Grok has produced factual errors, offensive language and politically biased outputs, raising concerns about its suitability for government use. The announcement comes amid a visible thaw between Musk and President Trump, though some officials emphasized the commercial agreement is separate from their personal interactions. xAI and Musk highlighted Grok’s technical advances, citing Grok 4 Fast’s benchmark performance, large context window and multimodal features, and the GSA said the move will promote competition among models to accelerate government AI adoption.
