Brazilian Lawmaker Eduardo Bolsonaro Faces Coercion Charges Linked to Father's Coup Case
Brazilian federal lawmaker Eduardo Bolsonaro has been charged with coercion by Brazil's Prosecutor General in a case connected to his father, President Jair Bolsonaro's conviction for plotting a coup. The Prosecutor General accused Eduardo of subordinating Brazil's interests to his personal and family agenda and highlighted his efforts to intervene in judicial proceedings related to his father. Earlier this year, Eduardo moved to the United States to seek support from President Donald Trump to halt the criminal proceedings against Jair Bolsonaro and claimed credit for influencing the White House to impose 50% tariffs on Brazilian goods. The charges also coincide with recent U.S. sanctions on the wife of Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who presided over Jair Bolsonaro's trial, adding political complexity to the case. Eduardo Bolsonaro has criticized the Prosecutor General's office for political bias and awaits formal notification of the charges to respond. The Attorney General's complaint included evidence such as public statements and data from seized cell phones, alleging repeated threats and actions aimed at interfering in the judicial process.
