Thieves Steal Hundreds of Nike Sneakers Through Mall Roof

Thieves cut through the concrete roof of the Treasure Coast Mall in Jensen Beach and lowered themselves into a Champs Sporting Goods store, stealing hundreds of pairs of Nike sneakers, officials said. The suspects bagged and tagged much of the merchandise, tossed goods off the roof and loaded them into a getaway vehicle, though photos released by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office show boxes, trash bags and chunks of concrete left behind. The sheriff’s office dubbed the suspects “sky-high sneaker thieves,” likening the effort to stealing the Crown Jewels and calling the theft “right out of Mission Impossible.” Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division are actively investigating and no arrests have been announced. Authorities are asking anyone who saw suspicious activity between midnight and 8 a.m. Tuesday to contact the Martin County Sheriff’s Office or Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers.
