Russia Launches 160 Drones in Mass Assault on Ukraine, 87 Intercepted

On the night of February 20-21, Russia launched a significant attack on Ukraine, deploying 160 Shahed drones and two ballistic missiles, targeting multiple regions including Odesa, Kyiv, and Poltava. Ukrainian air defenses successfully shot down 87 drones, while 70 others were lost from radar without causing damage. Despite the scale of the attack, local authorities reported no casualties or severe damage in Kyiv, although explosions and gunfire were heard as air defenses engaged. The coordinated assault is part of Russia's ongoing strategy to target Ukraine's energy infrastructure, particularly during the winter months. In response to this escalating threat, Ukraine is also developing its own drone technology, such as the Trembita, to enhance its defense capabilities. Ukrainian officials emphasize the importance of local production in sustaining their military efforts amid fluctuating international support.
