Hurricane Milton Causes Widespread Flight Cancellations

Hurricane Milton is expected to make landfall near Tampa Bay, prompting significant disruptions in air travel as airports in Florida begin to close. Airlines have canceled over 700 flights, with the majority of cancellations occurring at Tampa International Airport, which shut down in anticipation of the storm. President Biden urged airlines to avoid price gouging as travelers faced skyrocketing ticket prices, with some fares reported as high as $2,351. Allegiant Air has canceled all flights to and from Florida on October 9th, affecting numerous passengers who will need to contact the airline for rebooking options. The hurricane has also led to the cancellation of international flights from British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. A State of Emergency has been declared in 35 counties across west and central Florida as residents brace for the impact of the hurricane.
