BYD Surpasses Tesla with $100 Billion Revenue in 2023

Chinese carmaker BYD has surpassed Tesla in annual revenues for the first time, reporting 777.1 billion yuan ($107.2 billion) compared to Tesla's $97.7 billion, marking a significant shift in the electric vehicle landscape. This achievement is underscored by BYD's recent launch of a fast-charging system capable of delivering a full charge in just five minutes, further boosting its market presence. Meanwhile, Tesla has seen a sharp decline in its market share in both China and Europe, with sales dropping significantly; in China, its share fell to 4.3% from 16% in 2020, and in Europe, it dropped to 9.6%, its lowest in five years. Competing models like BYD's Qin L sedan, priced significantly lower than Tesla's Model 3, are increasingly attracting customers. As competition intensifies, BYD's sales have surged, while Tesla faces challenges related to its model range and CEO Elon Musk's political activities.
