Microsoft Launches Thinner, Lighter Surface Pro, Surface Laptop

Microsoft has unveiled new, more affordable versions of its Surface Pro and Surface Laptop, featuring thinner and lighter designs, smaller screens, and new color options. Both devices are powered by the 8-core Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus processor, offer 16GB of RAM, and are positioned as streamlined, entry-level options with Copilot+ AI features running on Windows 11. The 12-inch Surface Pro starts at $799 and the 13-inch Surface Laptop at $899, with both available for preorder and shipping beginning May 20. While these models come at lower prices than their predecessors, they include some notable compromises, such as lower screen resolutions, fewer configuration options, and storage limited to 256GB or 512GB UFS. Microsoft will continue selling its higher-end Surface devices alongside these new models, targeting users looking for budget-friendly upgrades as Windows 10 support nears its end. The new lineup is seen as an accessible upgrade path for those still using older hardware or operating systems.
