Arizona Fall League Opens With Expanded Postseason

The Arizona Fall League opens Monday as a monthlong developmental showcase featuring top MLB prospects and an expanded postseason in which all six teams qualify and the top two receive byes. Tripleheaders will be played in Tucson and Goodyear, the Fall Stars Game is scheduled for Nov. 9, a home run derby for Nov. 8, and the championship series runs Nov. 13–15 broadcast across MLB platforms. The Scottsdale Scorpions will host prospects from the Nationals, Astros, Giants, Mets and Tigers; Washington is sending eight prospects including shortstop Seaver King, right-hander Sean Paul Liñan and lefty reliever Pablo Aldonis. Houston is sending eight prospects highlighted by rising starter Anderson Brito and reliever Nate Wohlgemuth, and San Francisco is sending nine players led by infielder Maui Ahuna and lefty Ricardo Estrada as teams seek extra innings for development. In NHL preseason action, the St. Louis Blues finish exhibition play against the Chicago Blackhawks with coach Jim Montgomery singling out Alexandre Texier as final roster spots are decided ahead of the opener against the Minnesota Wild.
