Montana Man Sentenced for Capitol Riot

Henry Phillip 'Hank' Muntzer, a 55-year-old business owner from Dillon, Montana, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for his involvement in the January 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection. Muntzer was convicted of civil disorder and four misdemeanor charges after he attended the 'Stop the Steal' rally and joined the mob that breached the Capitol, spending approximately 38 minutes inside. His original felony conviction for obstructing an official proceeding was dismissed following a Supreme Court ruling that tightened the legal grounds for such charges. Judge Jia M. Cobb also imposed a year of supervised release and ordered Muntzer to pay $2,000 in restitution. Muntzer's actions were part of a larger trend, with over 1,500 individuals charged in connection with the Capitol riot and more than 1,000 convicted. His case highlights the ongoing legal repercussions stemming from the events of January 6, which disrupted the certification of the 2020 presidential election results.
