Lundgren Enters GOP Race for Iowa 2nd District
State Rep. Shannon Lundgren, a Republican from Peosta in Dubuque County, announced she is running for Iowa’s open 2nd Congressional District seat being vacated by Rep. Ashley Hinson, who is running for U.S. Senate. A five-term legislator who chairs the Iowa House Commerce Committee and owns Trackside Bar & Grill, Lundgren emphasized her long-standing support for Donald Trump (since August 2015 and again in the 2024 caucuses) and framed her campaign around conservative priorities. She lists tougher immigration enforcement, support for small businesses and working families, affordable housing and health care, protecting Social Security and Medicare, and opposing “woke gender ideology” as top issues. Her entrance adds to a crowded Republican primary that includes Charlie McClintock, Joe Mitchell and Rod Blum and brings the GOP field to at least six contenders. Iowa’s 2nd District spans 22 counties in northeast Iowa and includes cities such as Cedar Rapids, Dubuque, Waterloo and Mason City.
