Julia Koch Family Buys 15% Stake in BSE Global for $6 Billion
Billionaire Julia Koch, along with her children, has agreed to purchase a 15% stake in BSE Global, the parent company of the Brooklyn Nets, New York Liberty, and the Barclays Center, for a valuation of $6 billion. This transaction marks Koch’s first foray into sports ownership, though her family will not have any voting power or control over the teams. The deal, already approved by the NBA's financial advisory committee, awaits final approval by the league's Board of Governors by June 24. Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai will retain full control of BSE Global, but Koch will have the right to make a first offer if there's a future sale of the controlling interest. The valuation of BSE Global more than doubles the $2.35 billion Tsai initially paid for the Nets and Barclays Center. Julia Koch's wealth, primarily inherited from her late husband, David Koch, positions her family as one of the wealthiest ownership groups in American sports.
