Israel Reported to Match US $30 Million for Gaza Humanitarian Foundation
Senior Trump administration officials informed Congress that Israel has agreed to match the United States' $30 million contribution to the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a previously undisclosed funding source for the controversial armed private aid operation in Gaza. The U.S. State Department announced its $30 million grant to GHF in June, but the foundation does not disclose its other donors, leaving the full funding picture opaque. GHF operates distribution sites only in southern Gaza and has faced criticism from humanitarian groups and the United Nations, which label the aid effort as dangerous and ineffective, allegations the group denies. Aryeh Lightstone and Charles Leith, aides to Trump's Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, briefed Senate and House committees in early July, confirming Israel's financial commitment was sufficient to fund GHF through the end of July. President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. has provided $60 million in humanitarian aid to Gaza, though the State Department has only publicly approved the $30 million for GHF, with some officials suggesting Trump may have conflated U.S. and Israeli funds. The administration hopes that GHF's success will attract additional donors, enabling the foundation to expand its operations in Gaza.
