Rheinmetall Secures €770M Bundeswehr Order for 1,388 Logistics Trucks
Germany's Bundeswehr has placed a significant order with Rheinmetall for approximately 1,388 military logistics vehicles valued at around €770 million, with deliveries expected to complete by the end of 2025. The order comprises 963 vehicles with interchangeable bodies, including some with armored cabs, and 425 unprotected transport vehicles (UTVs) in 4×4 and 8×8 configurations, enhancing the Bundeswehr's operational readiness and logistics capabilities. This order is part of a larger framework agreement allowing the procurement of up to 6,500 vehicles worth up to €3.5 billion, reflecting Germany's commitment to modernizing its military amid increased defense spending pressures, including those encouraged by U.S. President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, Rheinmetall is also pursuing a joint venture with Lockheed Martin to establish a European missile production center, aiming to address long missile delivery lead times from the U.S. and build capacity for up to 10,000 missiles and rocket motors annually. The joint venture targets production of various missile systems, including ATACMS, GMLRS, Hellfire, JAGM, and PAC-3, with rocket motors to be produced in Unterlüss and warheads in Italy, operational within approximately 12 to 13 months. These developments highlight Rheinmetall's expanding role in European defense manufacturing and the broader context of increased defense investments in Germany and NATO.
