Texas Agencies Raise Awareness on Human Trafficking

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is ramping up efforts to combat human trafficking during National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, promoting awareness among employees and travelers. TxDOT is distributing safety messages and posters at Travel Information Centers, urging people to recognize the signs of trafficking, such as workers being unable to leave premises or showing signs of fear. TxDOT Executive Director Marc Williams emphasized that the initiative resembles a neighborhood watch program, calling for collective vigilance. Additionally, Texas has been identified as having the second-largest human trafficking problem in the U.S., prompting calls from local law enforcement for increased community awareness and action. Meanwhile, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has intensified its efforts, recovering over 440 victims and arresting nearly 900 suspects in 2024, highlighting the ongoing battle against human trafficking organizations. The collaborative approach among various agencies aims to disrupt trafficking networks and protect vulnerable populations across the state.
