Hamas Claims Deadly Attack on Israeli Soldiers

Seven Israeli soldiers from the 605th Combat Engineering Battalion were killed when their armored vehicle was destroyed by an explosive device reportedly planted by a Hamas operative in Khan Younis, southern Gaza. The vehicle was engulfed in flames, and all soldiers inside perished despite failed rescue attempts. Hamas has claimed responsibility for the attack, which marks one of the deadliest incidents for Israel in Gaza in recent months. Additional Israeli soldiers were wounded in separate attacks the same day, and Israeli forces continued operations elsewhere in Gaza. Since October 7, 2023, more than 860 Israeli soldiers and over 56,000 Palestinians have been killed, with severe civilian casualties and displacement reported in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed condolences and reiterated Israel's goal to defeat Hamas and secure the release of hostages.
